KS4 Art & Design (Fine Art)

This two year course is designed to offer students the opportunity to work in a range of materials both 2-D and 3-D, experiment with their own personal ideas and develop a range of creative processes. Students will develop skills learnt in Key stage 3 and will also investigate different themes and subjects from the work of other artists to aid in their creative process. Year 10 is an opportunity for students to develop their skills and learn new techniques.
Assessments are based on the recording, development, refinement and presentation of an idea. Student success at Art GCSE can be attributed to skills in handling materials and a disciplined approach to productivity, ensuring work is produced to the highest of standards and the deadlines met.
The course is made up of two components; a Portfolio (60%) and an externally set task (40%). Pupils will be expected to: develop artefacts and personal outcomes in relation to their chosen area of study. The Portfolio is made up of practical work, which explores the skills, knowledge and understanding in the learner’s chosen practical area of study. This specification is 100% non-exam assessment; all components are internally marked and externally moderated by visit.
A GCSE in Art & Design (Fine Art) can lead to further studies and potential employment in fields such as:

• Filmmaking
• Architecture

We ask parents to:

Please ensure your child attends school every day unless they are seriously ill.

Contact school on the first day of any absence before 9.30am and each subsequent day that your child is absent.

Provide a note confirming absences.

Provide medical confirmation for prolonged periods of absence.

Make all non-emergency medical appointments outside of school hours or in school holidays.

Do not book holidays to take place during term time.

As a School we will:

Monitor all student’s attendance and coordinate support for students who struggle to attend regularly.

Authorise up to a maximum of ten sessions (5 Days) of absence for illness unless medical evidence is received.

Holiday Request
There is no automatic right for pupils to be granted authorised leave of absence and requests will only be considered where there are exceptional circumstances. Please provide details and any evidence you have that may accompany your request.

Attendance Matters
Lode Heath School is dedicated to working with students and their families to secure excellent punctuality and attendance. National average attendance is 95% and we are working hard to ensure that wherever possible our students' attendance is in line with or exceeding this figure. We believe that regular school attendance is the key to enabling young people to maximise the educational opportunities available to them and become emotionally resilient, confident and competent adults.
Every day a student misses’ school, a total of five hours of learning is lost and whilst we understand that illness can’t always be avoided, just a few days of absence can have a huge impact on a child’s attendance figure and their education as a whole.
We use the below scale as a way of assessing where students are in terms of their attendance and the possible impact this may have on their achievement.
